Black History Month: A Few of our Favorite Black Artists & Designers to Watch

In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorite Black artists and designers on the blog. We’re including a range of industry talents from home decor brands, to artists, to interior designers. We’ve been following along with some for years, and others we’ve just recently discovered. But all of these artists, designers, and craftspeople have been a major source of inspiration for us!

Home Decor & Artists

I had to highlight a long-time favorite, Global Attic, which is a home decor brand that sells one-of-a-kind treasures from around the world including furniture, wall art, and sculptures. A personal favorite collection is the incredible necklace and adornment decor (shown above), which I’ve displayed on my own fireplace builtins.

Lolly Lolly Ceramics, based in Milwaukee, offers a collection of super unique and artistic mugs that I’ve been loving lately. They created a really cool 100 day project making 100 mugs with 100 different handles in 100 days, and you can read all about it on their site.

We’ve been super inspired by the throw pillows and home decor from Bolé Road Textile. All of the pieces are handwoven in Ethiopia, which makes them even more incredible.

Black Pepper Paperie Co., based in Washington DC, handcrafts one-of-a-kind jewelry, home goods, and apparel. They offer some really beautiful ceramic mugs and dishes, and they also sell amazing woven blankets I’ve been loving lately.

An amazing source for home accessories like artwork, vintage finds, ceramic stools, and much more is Domain by Laura Hodges Studio. I’ve had my eye on this super cool grey bamboo stool/table lately!

Let’s be honest, it can be hard to keep your houseplants and florals thriving! Faux Floral Design Co can be a solution, they offer shockingly realistic and beautiful faux floral arrangements and services.

I’ve loved following along with the beautiful work and original paintings of ọlọrọ interiors. This gorgeous textural, earth toned piece really stood out to me.

Elan Byrd is an incredibly talented artist, whose collection of wall hangings, collages, and wall art I’ve been loving recently. Her work is full of one-of-a-kind neutral pieces with gorgeous textures made from natural fibers.

Mitchell Black, a local Chicago-based studio, creates incredible wall murals and bespoke wall art. We’re just waiting for the perfect project to install one of their beautiful murals!

I’ve been absolutely loving these sculptural, artistic furniture pieces by Jomo Tariku. We love when functional furniture pieces can act as the art of a space! And these unique and striking chairs and stools are perfect for that.

Interior DEsigners

I’ve been super inspired by the work of Nicole White Designs! This bathroom pairs wood, stone, and a unique tub in a stunning way, and it’s just one of the many projects that caught my eye.

I’ve loved following along with Eneia White Interiors for her positive energy and gorgoeus work in New York. I really love how she paired an unexpected pop of pink with a patterned floor tile in this beautiful Brooklyn bathroom.

If you’ve been following along with me, you know this tile is a personal favorite! I absolutely love the way Thurman Design Studio has installed it in this beautiful, modern bathroom.

I’m always inspired by the modern work of DADAPT. This monochromatic, ultra sleek bathroom is just one of the spaces that caught my eye since following along with them.

We hope you enjoyed this highlight of our favorite black artists, and maybe even added a few incredible pieces to your shopping cart! It was so hard to narrow down our favorite pieces and there’s so much more to share, so be sure to check out the full collections of work on each artist’s website.
