Home Tour - Fairway Living

INTRODUCTION

We are thrilled to finally reveal the home tour for our Lake Geneva project! This home sits on a beautiful golf course near the lake, which makes it the perfect place for this young family to spend their summers. The views of the fairway outside are amazing, but the inside desperately needed some updating and reconfiguring - which is where our team came in. Our role on this project was to transform the home by designing a more open, inviting, and modern space.

The moodboard captures the fresh palette of warm tones, earthy elements, pops of blue, and herringbone accents incorporated throughout the design of this home.

THE PROCESS

In the existing layout, the kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living spaces on the main level. We knew this had to be opened up to make the home more functional for a young family. So, we reconfigured the layout on the main level and updated the finishes throughout to feel fresh, modern, and customized to our client’s taste.

We opened up the wall on the right that closed off the kitchen from the living room, and selected new flooring and light fixtures.

The existing finishes, like the fireplace tile and mantle, desperately needed a facelift to make the home feel more modern and fresh.

The bathrooms throughout were super outdated, so we gutted them and started fresh for an updated look that better fit our client’s taste.

The existing basement was one big open space, so we knew we had to transform this into a special area for the young family’s children.

One of the most exciting steps in the design process is presenting our 3-D renderings to the clients. For construction projects like this one, it helps the client better visualize our proposed layouts and selections. Here are a few renderings from key spaces in the home.

The kitchen was one of the biggest transformations on this project, with one of the biggest islands we’ve ever designed! Everyone knows the kitchen is the heart of the home, and we emphasized this by opening it up to truly be the focal point of the home.

In the family room, we highlighted the dramatic ceiling height by adding wood beams and a modern light fixture. The fireplace got a facelift with a new stone surround and custom cabinets/open shelves to the side.

Downstairs in the basement, we installed an epic indoor playground for the kids! Complete with a slide, ball pit, and rock climbing wall, it’s every kid’s dream.

The Reveal

Time to reveal the final results! We absolutely love how all of the details come together and completely transform this home. It’s open, fresh, and so much more functional for this young family!

This view from the entry way of the home is simply amazing. Now that the space has been opened up, you have direct views of the living, kitchen, and dining room from the entry of the home. The wood beam details in the living room draw your eyes up to really celebrate the ceiling height.

While the rest of the home is light and bright, we decided to go more moody and dramatic in the dining room to really define the space. The dark grey, textured wallpaper wraps around the room creating a dramatic effect. This monochromatic space is contrasted by wall art that adds a pop of blue to the room. Blue accents can be found throughout the entire home, so this gives a preview into the rest of the space.

The ceiling was painted a dark grey to continue the monochrome effect and dramatic tone in the space. Charcoal linen window treatments mimic the texture and color of the wallpaper. A large dining table provides seating for the whole family and their guests.

Past the dining room, the open-concept living and kitchen space is completely transformed. Its bright and fresh, as the natural light pours in from the large windows along the back wall. New wide plank hardwood floors were installed throughout to create a cohesive feel between the spaces.

A cozy living room sectional and chairs make this the perfect spot to lounge after a day on the lake or the golf course. Brown leather and wood accents add warmth to the bright space, and blue throw pillows add a pop of color to an overall neutral space.

The fireplace is wrapped in a swirling grey marble, and a new wood mantle carries up the wood tones from the hardwood floor. Paneling detail above the fireplace and wood beams across the ceiling draw your eyes up.

In the nook between the fireplace and the stairs, we added a cabinet for extra storage (you can never have enough with three kids) and open shelves above for styling and accessories.

The open plan makes it easy to circulate the kitchen and living spaces. Warm leather accents from the living room are carried into the kitchen counter stools. Upper cabinetry matches the tones of the wood beams above and hardwood floors below creating a cohesive feel to the space.

The massive island was wrapped in a bright white quartz counter with a waterfall edge. This creates a modern and clean feel to the space. To add some contrast and depth, the island cabinetry was painted a dark grey.

A minimal black hood adds more contrast and depth to the kitchen, and matte black accents in the faucet, pendants, and hardware carry the black throughout the space. On the island cabinetry, we opted for leather strap hardware to protect your knees as you sit at the counter stools.

A marble herringbone backsplash adds a subtle texture to the kitchen in a beautiful and timeless way. A large stainless steel oven/range centered along the back wall is the perfect station for cooking up some delicious breakfasts for slow summer mornings at the lake house.

Along the side of the kitchen, we added a prep sink and station. To really highlight and define this prep area, we brought in a new contrasting grey countertop. It’s the same stone as the fireplace, so it still feels cohesive in the space. Open shelves were added above to display the client’s collection of glass drinkware.

Behind the kitchen sits a family room that we designed specifically for family board games by the fire. We chose a large coffee table and cozy sofas perfect for lounging and games. A darker, moodier paint color sets a cozier tone for this room.

We added a powder room to the main floor with a wood vanity and subway tile backsplash. The tile has a subtle texture to it, and we opted to stack the tile rather than lay it in a traditional, brick pattern. This adds a clean and modern touch, while the wood vanity creates a warm, earthy feel.

Down the hall in the primary bedroom, we added shiplap along the back wall in a chevron pattern. This creates a focal point in the space and helps celebrate the high ceilings in the bedroom. Another focal point in this bedroom - the “Ace” bed. It’s nearly double the size of a queen bed. Summer homes are for catching up on rest and relaxation, and this bed is just perfect for that.

In the primary bathroom, a blue herringbone tile wraps the walls. It’s beachy yet modern, and the perfect way to add a bold color to the space. A custom double vanity provides plenty of storage and adds warmth to the bathroom.

Across from the vanity, the large tub wrapped in quartz creates the perfect retreat after a day on the lake or the golf course. We carried the same blue herringbone tile along the back wall of the shower to tie the room together.

Down the hall in the kid’s bath, we selected some more playful materials. A patterned tile was laid across the back wall, creating a bold backdrop for the vanity and shower. A custom wood vanity with a herringbone pattern adds texture, as well as functional storage for three kids.

Heading downstairs into the basement, we added a guest bedroom and guest bathroom. The guest bathroom features a double vanity with lots of storage and a crisp white marble countertop. And finally, the basement was transformed into the ultimate indoor playground for the kids! Do you know how many plastic balls it takes to fill a ball pit? It may have taken a few attempts to calculate, but now we can say we do! This was the space the kids were most excited about in their new home, and we hope they enjoy it all summer!

This was such a special project to work on, and we couldn’t be happier with the transformation! We hope this family can enjoy their new lake house for many years to come. I am so excited to finally share this tour with everyone, I hope you all enjoyed it!
